answers on the debate: "Guns in America"
Guns in America:
1. The moderator Lisa's first question to the members of the debate is: Why do people own guns?
Write down what Andrea, Maxwell, and Jessica believe is the reason for this.
Andrea: she thinks, that people own them for hunting, for protection and for violence.
Maxwell: he has two reasons, the first is: he uses the language: men with small penises. And with that, he mean, that them with “small penises” are insecure so they need the gun, so they can feel stronger and more macho. The 2. Reason is fear. People in America are afraid of lots of things and they believe that a gun can prevent them being attacked.
Jessica: women own guns, so they can feel protected and less powerless.
2. Jessica says that many Americans want to have a gun because of the media and films. Do you agree with Jessica? Why? Why not?
- I couldn’t find it in the video.
3. Rhajik talks a lot about the military, when he is talking about guns. What does he say about the military and their need and use of guns?
- He says that the military has to be qualified in the forces. And they have signed a contract saying, that they will to kill people for the government.
4. Maxwell names some facts about guns. Name at least one of them. Comment on the fact. - Everyday fifty people are killed of handguns. – I think it’s a lot of people and I don’t think its very safe and faire. I am much surprised to hear that it’s so many.
5. Maxwell says that the reason why criminals have guns is because the citizens are armed. Do you think that is right? How do you think it is in Denmark? – Yes I think its right; even they are criminals they need to feel safe too. –No, I think in Denmark it’s the opposite of America.
6. What does Andrea think should be changed in America’s gun law?
- She cannot make them illegally that is not realistic. She thinks training would help a lot.
7. Rhajik says that power should be returned to the people, the individual. It should be totally legal to own guns. No one should rule. We should be responsible for our own lives. What do you think about this? – I think the guns should be totally illegally, because it seems that there isn’t so much control over there and if fifty people are killed everyday by a gun, its not safe whit those guns. – I am not agreeing. I think its good, that one person rule. But it isn’t only the one, who rules. The decedent rules also. –Yes off course we are responsible for our own lives, but we need to have help. But what if a person is being abusing? Should the person control the life by him- or her. No, then we know what would happen. If the family would help in this situation, maybe they could safe the person.
8. In the end of the debate, all the debate members are asked to say in short what they think about guns. Choose at least two of the members and write down their opinion.
Fritz: ”its a freedom to those to have guns or not”, when you are an American citizen you have options. It’s your own choice, not others.
Jessica: ”We have to show people what the consequences are, if you have a gun and how you use them”.
9. Lisa ends the debate by giving the Americans an advice about guns. What does she say? – “When or if you decide to own a gun, then think about it before you let your passions get in the way”. –She means, that most of the people don’t think, if they decide to have a gun.
10. Who do you agree with the most of the five members of the debate and why? I am mostly agreeing with Andrea. Because she has good thoughts and she says some good things, like: we should not have guns and if you want to have a gun, training will be good. I think the same as she. -She has a good overview.
